In addition to his non-stop touring schedule as a bass player and composer, for the past fifteen years, Max Johnson has taught electric and upright bass, improvisation, music theory and composition. His individualistic approach to music has lead him to currently teach at Brooklyn College, and to perform or present workshops at such institutions as University of Richmond, University of Vermont, Vermont College of Fine Arts, The Dublin School, University of Wisconsin, The New School, and The Rhythmic University in Copenhagen. Whether it’s in private lessons in his home in Brooklyn, NY, online, or workshops abroad, Johnson treats every session with care and a genuine love for whatever music is being taught.

Max Johnson teaches privately in New York City, online, or on the road, in addition to teaching music theory at Brooklyn College. If you are interested in either private lessons or bringing Max Johnson to your school or university for a workshop, please use the contact form.
